Project Details
Sited on NTBG’s Administrative and Research Campus and designed by the legendary Hawaiian modern architect Vladimir Ossipoff (1907-1998), the new Botanical Research Center is a landmark educational facility which combines sustainable and resilient design strategies. Its attainment of LEED Gold from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2009 makes it Kauai’s first certified green building. Designed to be hurricane resistant, this durable concrete structure houses laboratories, a reference library, the Loy McCandless Marks Collection of rare books on tropical botany, and a herbarium containing over 60,000 plants specimens.
